This and That

No, this is not the title of a TNT Thursday post!

Actually, I am was not able to get one up and posted this week. We are in "full swing" with moving into our new home in California. Gads, I really have forgotten what an ordeal buying and moving can be. Our transition from our motorhome into our 14X40 mobile in Arizona was a breeze.
This has been a little more entailed, but on the whole, exciting and fun.

We have added shutters to the front windows and are meeting with the landscaper early next week. I think we will be staying with dessert  plants,
since my husband and myself don't have a "green thumb"
and want to keep maintenance low. Anyone have any suggestions?

I will be posting a card tomorrow that I created for the MOJO Monday challenge. The colors were a little bit of a struggle for me, but after looking at it for a day, I think I'm okay with it. So please stop by tomorrow and tell me what you think.

Returning Holiday Sets

For those of you that are already thinking Christmas, just a reminder. There are still holiday stamps that have been carried over from last years catalog.

Remember this Ornament project? Well, this stamp set with matching framelits is returning. I know I will be working on mine as soon as
I get settled in my new studio.

I really need to get moving along. I will try to put up the list of returning Holiday stamps tomorrow.

Have a great day and stay CRAFTY!

A Blue "Lobsta"?

Boy, did I have a hard time stamping this great Lobster image from By the Tide in blue! But it needed to be done. I wanted to use the 2 new beautiful 2013-2014 In Colors, Coastal Cabana and Baked Brown Sugar paper, and just thought the blue would give me a softer look.

This is for a young lady who just was hired for a teller position at a bank in Maine, and I wanted to keep the colors on the feminine side. I hope she likes it.

Thinking of You

I had a little extra time this weekend before the craziness of moving sets in motion and was able to create this card for,  Freshly Made Sketches #91. I don't join these challenges often, but this one intrigued me.

Not because I don't like the challenges."Clean" tends to be an area of card making that is difficult for me. I liked to add multiple layers and embellishments, but I have been wanting to use the Mosaic Madness stamp with the matching punch in a vertical lay out, and this filled the bill.

TNT Thursday

Today's TNT Thursday will not only include a Post-a-Note holder, but a few instructions on how to make the packaging to put it in.

Here are the pieces to put together the holder and the package.

The holder measures
3 1/4" x  71/2"
Scored at 3 1/2" and 4"

The top panels are

2 1/2"x 2 3/4"
and
2 1/2" x 2 1/4"

Decorate the smaller front panel. I used Mosaic Madness
with the coordinating punch and added several Basic Rhinestone Jewels on mine.

Apply Sticky Tape to the back of one package of notes and adhere to the
inside back close to the scored line as shown below.
** It actually can be adhered even closer then what is shown here.

Next work on the packaging. I used a Stampin'Up! 4" X  6" Cellophane Bag.
I cut a strip of solid CS 4 1/4" X 2" and scored it in half. I then applied a 3/4" X  4" piece of matching DSP and centered it on the CS strip.

I folded the cello bag over about 1/2" and stapled it closed

I then I used 2 pieces of Double-Sided Tape to adhere the strip to the top of the bag. * I used a smaller piece of tape for the front so it can be opened easily.

I punched a small tag from the A Round Array stamp set and a coordinating solid CS circle , layered them and punched a small hole for the Bakers Twine. I also ran a piece of twine around the closure and tied it in a double bow.

I hope you will give this a try. They can be as simple or as "fancy" as you want and would make really nice gifts for workmates, teachers, friends , etc.

Have a great day and stay CRAFTY!

Happy Big Day

Today's card is  one I created for the MOJO Monday 297 blog challenge.

My selection of paper and stamps were so easy for this card. I knew I needed an extra birthday card in my stash and the  Birthday Basics DSP and the
Chalk Talk  stamps and framelits were perfect for the task at hand.

Combining them both just made this  card so easy.

TNT Thursday

I thought for today's tutorial we would put together a little gift box.

This particular one is based on a "pizza" box. The lid fits over the bottom section of the box, but is still part of the main box.

Let's get started

You will need to cut your paper for the box at 5 1/2" x 8".
I used solid SU Card Stock because it is sturdier.

The CS is scored at landscape position at
1", 3 1/2", 4 1/2", 7"

Horizontal position at
1", 4 1/2"

After you have scored  the CS, clip the tabs as shown in the picture below. The left hand side is the box and the right side is the lid.

Fold all sections on their scored lines using your bone folder.

At the the corners of the tabs, I found that taking a small triangle piece from each corner helps the box corners fit tight.

Next put some type of sticky tape or liquid glue on
 the inside connecting pieces.

LID

BOX

The completed box

Cut 2 pieces of CS at 2 3/4" x 4"
2 pieces of DSP 2 1/2" X 4"

Take the CS and using the edgelit and the Big Shot, cut close to
the edge as the below picture shows.

Layer the remaining pieces to the CS and round the
corners with a corner rounder.

These pieces are then adhered to the top and bottom of the completed box lining up the straight edge to the back of the box top and bottom.

I stamped and cut the image with the new Chalk Talk stamp and edgelits.

Cut a 18"-20" piece of ribbon and wrap around the box and tie in a bow. Cut the ends.
To add a little more fluff to the bow, I put a small piece of ribbon through the hole
of the tag and tied it a simple bow, then tied it around the knot of the first.

Tool Talk

Better then sliced bread? I sure do think so.

Stampin' Up's! new Magnetic Platform 130658 is a must have in your crafting arsenal if you LOVE using Framelits and Edgelits and don't want to mess with sticky notes to hold things down.

I tested it over the  weekend and I'm impressed. Although they suggest using flat Standard Cutting Pads, I didn't have any newer pads and it worked fine.

I run mine through the Big Shot flipping them over every other time, which does prevent them for getting to warped. I think you can tell by the pictures that they are also fairly etched and that didn't seem to affect the framelits or edgelits staying in place either.

For my test I used the new Chalk Talk Framelits (129983) that I just received.

The "sandwich"
Magnetic Platform
Standard Cutting Pad
Framelits
(cutting edge face down) on paper
Standard Cutting Pad

I ran it through and everything stayed in place nicely.

To further test the strength of the magnets,
I set the platform up on its edge against the Big Shot and the framelits didn't move.
IMPRESSIVE

I then used the tiny insert to make a tag. No problem there either. I was able to line it up and it stayed just were I put it.

Here they are all cut and removed from the framelits.

There is a warning on the side of the platform for people who have pacemakers. So be mindful of that if you are either selling this, have people using it or using it yourself.

I really think this is a winner for all of use that love our Big Shot (113439) and love using the framelits and edgelits. It truly makes cutting them hassle free.
